USA vs France Preview

The sixth-ranked Americans lost to the second-ranked Canadians 4-3 in a shootout on May 6th in their first qualification-round game. The USA was leading 2-1 after the second period before Canada pulled ahead 3-2 early in the third. The USA tied the game with less than nine minutes left on a power play goal by Derek Stepan. Ty Conklin was amazing in net with 49 saves on 52 shots. Canada outshot America 52-20 overall.

France was shutout by Sweden 4-0 in their first qualification-round game and things just get tougher from here on in. They just don’t have the offence to compete with the other teams. The USA sits in fourth place in Group F with four points while France is in last place with just one point.
France are on a five-match winning streak. The last time Laurent Blanc's men tasted defeat was in a 1-0 home loss to Belarus in their opening match in the European qualifiers.
Les Bleus' fine form includes the 1-0 win over Brazil last month and a 2-1 victory over neighbours England at Wembley in November.
Wayward World Cup duo Patrice Evra and Franck Ribery have served their bans and are expected to feature for Les Bleus for the first time since their infamous World Cup rebellion.
France are top of Group D in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, winning three and conceding none since their slip-up against Belarus.
France have also won their last 12 competitive games against the Grand Duchy with an aggregate score of 50-5.
History is on their side, France have a W14 D0 L1 record against Luxembourg, and all things point to another Les Blues victory.

The Americans should be far too strong for France in this game, even though it’s not the strongest U.S. team. The Americans added Jack Campbell from the Windsor Spitfires junior team in Canada to enable him to game some international experience. France has added Loïc Lamperi and Teddy Trabichet to their roster, but it’s doubtful they’ll make much of a difference.
