The two teams will clash at the Olympic Stadium in Athens in a much-anticipated final that has a sort of David vs. Goliath feel to it.

AEK are one of the biggest names in Greek football and historically one of the country’s most successful teams having won the Greek Cup on 13 occasions.

Atromitos meanwhile are making their first ever appearance in a Cup final and will be looking for a major upset as they aim to lift the trophy for the first time.

AEK will aim to win the trophy for the first time since the 2001-02 season when they overcame Olympiakos 2-1 in the final. Two years ago the club played Olympiakos in perhaps the greatest Greek Cup final in history as they lost 4-4 (15-14 on penalties) in an amazing match.

This time around under Spanish boss Manolo Jimenez, AEK find themselves in the final as big favorites to win their first trophy in nearly a decade.

“I am extremely happy that we can challenge for the Greek Cup. One more time I would like to express my thanks to all the roster and even to those players who are gone that played in the early matches,” said the former Sevilla boss.

Jimenez has a full side from which to select from and while most of the starting 11 speaks for itself, the decision of who will lead the line up front appears to be the only mystery heading into the final.

Jimenez will have to choose between goal-poaching expert Ismael Blanco or the physical presence of on-loan striker Nabil Baha.

Atromitos meanwhile have been preparing for their date with destiny and were given a rousing send-off on Thursday by over 500 supporters.

Manager Giorgos Donis summed up it for his side in Friday’s pre-match press conference. “We are very happy that we will be involved in the final. It is a historic moment for us. I am sure my players will do whatever they have in order to lift the trophy. We will have to surpass ourselves,” said the former Panathinaikos and Blackburn player.

While Atromitos do not have much experience in matches of this sort, the players can look to Donis for inspiration as he has won all four Greek Cup finals he has been involved with, three as a player and one as a manager for Larisa.

Though AEK may have settled on most of their line-up, Donis has kept his cards close as far as how Atromitos will enter the pitch. The club will certainly rely on the quality of their best player, Henri Camara, and hope the Senegalese front man can conjure up the goals up front to win the title....

Tottenham must still visit Champions League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, but it is their failure to beat relegation-threatened sides at home that has undermined them. One win in seven has left Spurs with a four-point deficit and vastly inferior goal difference to City.
While it is true that Tottenham usually raise their game against the top sides - their breathless run to the Champions League quarter-finals is testament to that - they have not won at Chelsea for 23 matches spanning 21 years.

Water for Elephants: Movie Review:

As a young man, Jacob Jankowski (Pattinson) was tossed by fate onto a rickety train that was home to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. It was the early part of the great Depression, and for Jacob (Holbrook), now ninety, the circus world he remembers was both his salvation and a living hell. A veterinary student just shy of a degree, he was put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie.

Water for Elephants movie is based on Sara Gruen's novel of the same name. A veterinary student abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet. Pattinson plays Jacob Jankowski, the sensitive and bright only child of Polish immigrant parents who have the unfortunate timing to die in a tragic car accident just as Jacob is about to take his final veterinary exam, an exam that, he informs us via voiceover, he totally would have aced. In that same voiceover, he also informs us that he was planning to deflower the girl sitting across from him – which, when you think about it, is sort of an odd thing to announce via voiceover.

Alas, there is to be no acing or deflowering for poor Jacob. Penniless and grief-stricken, he hops aboard the nearest train, where he’s befriended by a loquacious drunken hobo and offered work with a traveling circus, first as a manure-shoveler and then, after impressing the circus’ owner and ringmaster, August (Christoph Waltz), with his intuitive knowledge of equine anatomy, as the resident veterinarian for the circus’ four-legged performers.



Complications arise for Jacob when he falls for the outfit’s star attraction, the graceful and beguiling Marlena (Reese Witherspoon), whose signature act involves performing tricks astride majestic show horses. Romantic sparks first fly between them when Jacob, seeing that Marlena’s best horse is injured and in pain, decrees that it must be put down. They decide to do the grim deed together, her singing a farewell lullaby to the steed while he puts a bullet in its head. Euthanized horses being a well-known aphrodisiac, their mutual attraction is cemented on the spot. It blossoms further with the arrival of an unruly elephant, Rosie, that they are together tasked with grooming for big-top stardom.

Unfortunately, Marlena already belongs to someone else: her husband August. “Belong” is the operative word here. Clearly bipolar and quite possibly homicidal, August rules the circus through a mixture of charm – a brusque, teutonic variety of charm – and violent intimidation. It’s also how he approaches marriage. Marlena would like to leave her mercurial husband, but fears losing her livelihood – and perhaps her life – if she runs off with Jacob.

Water for Elephants is directed by Francis Lawrence – that same Francis Lawrence of such classic cinematic love stories as I Am Legend and Constantine – who successfully infuses the film with a grand, old-fashioned quality without resorting to Nick Sparks-level sentiment. (Though he does take care to pile on various estro-centric tropes – scenes of cute suffering animals; RPattz coming to the aid of said cute suffering animals; wistful opening and closing narration by an adorably cantankerous old man; etc.) His main problem seems to be his leading man, Pattinson, who, at least in this early stage in his career, doesn’t have the screen presence to hang with Oscar-winning co-stars Witherspoon and Waltz. As a result, a film that aims for epic is for the most part inert, ambling along slowly for the better part of two hours before collapsing upon itself in a brief, gloriously overwrought finale.



During the Great Depression, Jacob, a penniless and recently-orphaned veterinary school student, parlays his expertise with animals into a job with a second-rate traveling circus. He falls in love with Marlena, one of the show's star performers, but their romance is complicated by Marlena's husband, the charismatic but unbalanced circus boss.

For a few months now, we’ve been running trailers and posters for the Italian release of the English-language film Dylan Dog: Dead of Night. Now that the movie finally has a U.S. distributor, it’s received a trailer that I can actually understand and a poster that is all kinds of generic.



I like the premise of the movie: a human detective (played by Brandon Routh) is appointed by supernatural creatures to impartially investigate crimes which happen in their underworld.While it has its charms -- due mostly to the chemistry between Routh and Huntington -- Dylan Dog: Dead of Night ultimately plays like a lesser episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In fact, if Dylan Dog were a TV pilot then I might be inclined to tune in the following week for the next episode. But as a feature film, it's too small and forgettable a piece of genre fare.


The film's obvious budgetary constraints add to the overall small scale feel of the movie. The makeup and special effects are inconsistent in their quality, ranging from the acceptable to the level of a student film. The finale, featuring a demonic creature, is painfully cheap and cheesy-looking, but the practical creature suit worn by performer Brian Steele as a giant zombie is pretty sweet.
Hired by the beautiful heiress Elizabeth (Journey to the Center of the Earth's Anita Briem) to find a missing artifact taken from her slain father's home, Dylan and his sidekick Marcus (Sam Huntington, who also starred opposite Routh in Superman Returns) uncover netherworld connections to the murder.

Thor: Movie Review:

Interestingly,the film, and indeed the fate of any continuing franchise, was placed not in the hands of some up and coming music video director or helmer known for breakneck-paced
flashy visuals, but in those of Kenneth Branagh, the Oscar winning prime purveyor of cinematic adaptations of Shakespeare.

It’s this more than the predictably huge budget which in itself suggests a certain ambition for the material and a determination to do things right, as does the interesting casting that sees Australian actor Chris Hemsworth (recently in the “Star Trek” reboot) taking on the mantle of the title role, with recently crowned Best Actress Natalie Portman as his love interest and British television actor.
Pleasingly, Branagh balances such weighty themes with some very effective comic relief,and this again serves well to defuse any threat of daft campness. If anything, the film is at its best and most entertaining during its many moments of humour, getting a lot of mileage out of Thor’s fish out of water style behaviour as he tries to adjust to the modern human age. The script is frequently very funny, making the
most out of some priceless dialogue as he bellows “You dare attack the son of Odin?” at hospital attendants and anyone who inadvertently gets in his way. This does at times give the film the feel of a family friendly version of “Your Highness”, though it certainly benefits from not taking itself too seriously, especially given the essential ridiculousness of its premise and grandiose, shiny costumes and billowing capes.


Thor is an American superhero film based on the comic book of the same name appearing in Marvel Comics. The powerful but arrogant warrior Thor is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live amongst humans on Earth, where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders. The epic adventure THOR spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the mystical realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. As a result, Thor is banished to Earth where he is forced to live among humans. When the most dangerous villain of his world sends its darkest forces to invade Earth, Thor learns what it takes to be a true her.



The film delivers spectacularly in terms of special effects, and although the use of 3D is predictably lame, the visuals are stunning throughout, convincingly creating Asgard and giving the proceedings as a whole a winningly fantastic feel.The film also scores highly in the action stakes, with some thrilling set pieces and battle scenes, as Thor takes on legions of frost giants, a giant fire breathing golem, and eventually, inevitably, his brother. Hemsworth does a fine job as the hammer wielder, hitting just the right note of charisma and conceitedness, and the rest of the cast are similarly decent in their roles, with even Portman managing to edge her Jane Foster above eyelid fluttering romantic interest. It’s worth noting that Marvel fans are offered a few tantalising “Avengers” titbits here and there, with Jeremy Renner being briefly wedged in as Hawkeye, Samuel Jackson skulking around and dropping a few of his now de rigueur cryptic future plot hints, and withthere being the usual post-credit teaser sequence.

Last Night: Movie Review:


Written and directed by Massy Tadjedin, Last Night is an adult tale that smolders without ever sizzling. Tadjedin has no point to make, or at least none that I could gather, and instead just lays the events out on the table and asks us to discuss them later. There is an inevitability around the happenings of the night, and all four parties knew what they were doing as they primped and prepared for it. As such, it’s difficult to feel any great empathy for any of them. However, Tadjedin’s direction is classy and confident, which counter-balances the deficiencies the writing may have. Canet, for my money, is the pick of the performers here, but I was slightly deflated by the cast as a whole. In a wordy, play-based movie such as this, the opportunity was there for one of the young cast to command centre stage: Knightley, I’m afraid, is not that sort of performer here, despite having the most screen time in which to develop a character. Instead, she resorts to a great deal of mouth-twitching as a complement to her introspective conversational chit-chat.


Last Night nonetheless is worth a watch, especially if you’re a fan of wordy relationship movies such as Mike Nichols’ Closer, for example. I’m not sure what the future holds for Michael and Joanna — the movie cuts, deliciously, at a moment that might reveal all. Whatever it is, they’re certainly in the right city to discuss their issues and can afford the therapy that will no doubt benefit, so I’m quite confident that I’ll sleep easily tonight, next to my wife (of seven years, gulp!) as always.

Last Night is an drama romance film. The film is written and directed by Massy Tadjedin, The story follows a married couple Joanna Reed (Knightley) and Michael Reed (Worthington), apart for a night while the husband takes a business trip with a colleague (Mendes) to whom he's attracted. While he's resisting his temptation, his wife encounters her past love (Canet).

Joanna and Michael (Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington) have been married for three years, and have been together for seven — and we all know what happens to a relationship after seven years. The itch, previously dormant, surfaces. The couple is happy together in New York — she’s English, he’s Australian, and both have adapted well with their homey but chic apartment and middle-class lifestyle — but Joanna sees something she doesn’t like when accompanying her husband to a business function. Whilst she’s mingling with the assorted suited, open-necked shirt brigade, her husband is out on the balcony spending altogether too much time with Laura (Eva Mendes who, in all honesty, looks the man-eater type at the best of times. Here, her mouth suggests Venus Fly Trap, at best).

Joanna’s mood is not helped by the revelation that Michael has to leave town tomorrow for a business trip to Philadelphia with, amongst others, Laura. While moping around, wondering whether she’s over-reacted, she bumps into old flame Alex (Guillaume Canet), all Gallic charm with soft, gentle eyes, who is only in town for one day. As Michael’s away, she reasons, what’s the harm in spending some time with an old friend? Plenty, is the answer, and she knows it full well but agrees anyway.



At this point Last Night basically splits into two; Michael’s night with Laura, and Joanna’s with Alex. Parallels between the nocturnal trysts are compared throughout, as the movie cuts between Philadelphian hotels and New York chic. Laura is quite open about her intentions — in truth, we could have guessed them the moment we first clapped eyes on her — and Alex, too, makes his feelings known, only in his case it’s love, not lust, on his mind. Both dates will go on through the night and into the next morning.

American Empire: Movie Review:

Repetition can smother a point, as well as underscore it. The American opens on an image — beautiful, elegant — and closes on a variant of it. The world turns — nature is implacable. So, now you know.

The second feature from acclaimed photographer Anton Corbijn is concerned with existential issues: chewy and important. It is also — like his debut, Control — about a lost soul. And is quite unlike what many will expect from an assassination thriller starring George Clooney. Though for a bloke who comes over as carefree in interviews, Clooney has made an awful lot of movies about mid-life crises, hinging on heroes who may have cause to regret their emotions: Solaris, Syriana, The Good German, Michael Clayton, Up In The Air and more. So, the big questions come: Is it safe to feel? Can love redeem? How much time is Violante Placido going to spend starkers?


It’s not only her that’s exposed. And the thing about subtext is, really, it needs to be under something. The American may not have a lot of dialogue, but it sure has a lot of ‘text’. The. Words. Carry. Meaning. Every. One. Of. Them.

This may seem like a knock on Rowan Joffe’s screenplay (adapted from Martin Booth’s novel A Very Private Gentleman), but it could say as much or more about the director’s decision to shoot in a moody, meditative manner — and cast characterful Euro faces who deliver dialogue as if it were carved in stone. Amid the motion-sick pandemonium of a Bourne — or with more verbally dextrous performers — the conversations might not have felt so self-consciously weighty.

But Corbijn enjoys silence and master shots — the slow-build over the whizz-bang. There are some terrific scenes — the shocking snow-bound opening, the tense car-park face-off — but having a café TV play Once Upon A Time In The West invites dangerous comparisons. The American definitely doesn’t have Sergio Leone’s sense of fun.

Train-robbery fireworks notwithstanding, Fast Five sputters a bit out of the gate, never really hitting high-gear until about the 45-minute mark, when the boys, employing that special brand of dubious reasoning peculiar to heroes of American action films, hatch an idea to steal $100 million from Reyes, the same scoundrel currently seeking their heads. At this point, Fast Five adopts the standard template of a contemporary heist flick, a la The Italian Job remake and the Ocean’s series: A multi-ethnic team of top-class specialists is assembled (a handy excuse to bring back franchise veterans like Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and Sung Kang), and a plan just crazy enough to work is formulated.

Credit Fast Five director Justin Lin with learning a few lessons from the last film, the most salient being that a spectacle this outrageous needs a healthy dose of levity to make its potent summer-movie brew go down smooth. Fast Five has a sense of humor that its needlessly morose predecessor sorely missed, thanks in large part to comic contributions from Gibson, Bridges, and the wacky reggaeton duo of Tego Calderon and Don Omar. And the spectacle is indeed outrageous. Lin bombards us with one gloriously absurd set piece after another, with seemingly little regard for whether the action is germane to the plot or even visually coherent. Alas, logic and coherence are not the priority here; awesomeness is. And if the price of awesomeness is glaring plot holes, underdeveloped characters, and occasional moments of abject confusion, then so be it.



Indeed, some sequences are entirely superfluous, as when the gang steals four cop cars from the local police headquarters (thefts of large, easily recognized and traceable objects being surprisingly easy in Rio) and then decides to race them in an impromptu urban grand prix, because what the hell. Lucky for them, the streets of Rio, a city of 12 million people, are apparently completely deserted at night. There’s nary a pedestrian nor another car around to get in the way of the fun, or bear witness to it, for that matter.

Fast Five’s main plot turns out to be something of a bust. Far more entertaining is a subplot involving the rivalry that emerges between Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who plays Luke Hobbs, a brash and boisterous federal agent sent south to bring fugitive Dom back stateside. Pumped up to his former WWE proportions and wearing a thick, vaguely sinister goatee (presumably to help differentiate him from the cast’s other gargantuan, bald, mixed-race actor of limited range) Johnson engages Diesel in a gleefully overblown (yet tonally consistent with the rest of the film) dick-measuring contest. Their scenes together crackle with combustible machismo, not to mention a sexual tension conspicuously absent from Diesel’s interactions with his designated love interest, a Brazilian cop played by Elsa Pataky.

If Kelly's Sara is suitably shy and lonesome as the small towner who tries to fit in with with the cosmo cult, then Beverly Hills brat Meeter's Rebecca is the enigma we must fathom in due course. The two complement each other well while playing the dangerous cat and mouse game despite the overt bonhomie.

Of course, it is Rebecca who has a better graph as she moves from BFF (best friend forever) to sinister stalker who can't have her roomie bonding with anyone else, other than her. Threats and violence is perpetrated against anyone who dares to come between her and her obsession, be it Sara's offending tutor (Billy Zane), her new love interest (Cam Gigandet) or her set of other friends. Even the pet kitty isn't spared, nor is her ex-boyfriend.


The film is a languorous and stylish investigation of a disturbed young mind and creates a character that evokes sympathy rather than distaste. Yes, Rebecca needs help, but she can't find it in Sara, can she?

"The Roommate" is a psychological thriller about a mentally disturbed college freshman Rebecca Woods (Leighton Meester), who suddenly becomes obsessed with her new college roommate Sara (Minka Kelly). As the two new friends bond deeper into their friendship, it's not long until the seemingly sweet Rebecca reveals her true colours and goes on a jealous rampage upon anyone that gets close to Sara, including her family, friends and professors.


Sara (Minka Kelly) is an aspiring designer who moves to L.A. to get her college degree in fashion design. There She quickly befriends her new college roommate Rebecca (Leighton Meester), a local southern California girl who seems quite normal at first. But Rebecca turns a bit odd as she starts to overly concern herself with Sara’s whereabouts and well-being. Rebecca’s obsession continues to escalate with “familiar” stalker movie elements like memorizing her roommate’s schedule, popping up at the strangest times, scaring off Sara’s other friends, and adopting Sara’s tastes copying her favourites. She even mistreats a poor helpless animal like in SWF. Rebecca’s stalking never appears creepy or edgy as Meester isn’t able to pull off the effect. The Morph from a grin to a pout on camera should never be mistaken for a disturbing dip into a dark psychosis and to her credit though, she’s not really given much to work with. Even so, her Rebecca comes off as a really annoying weirdo girl you’d try to avoid rather than a dangerous psychopath. Jennifer Jason Leigh did it so much better by adding a certain bawdy trashiness to her character -- something that The Roommate‘s PG-13 rating likely hinders somewhat.

Red Riding Hood: Movie Review:


Red Riding Hood anyone? Well, there's a wolf, there's a grandmother, there's a woodcutter and there's a pretty girl in a red hood. So far, so good. But if you go looking for a copy book rendition of the Grimm's fairy tale, as in the case of Snow White and Beauty and the Beast, you're obviously mistaken. Again, if you are hoping for a revolutionary adult re-invention of the kiddie story, you're mistaken once more. Because Catherine Hardwicke's reworking of every kid's favourite bedtime story, Red Riding Hood, resurfaces in the Twilight zone: neither a full blown horror flick, nor a contemporary feminist fable. Instead, an oft-seen saga of werewolves and their predilection for spunky maidens.

Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) is a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Max Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie's older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon's arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast-one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect...and bait.



Can't blame the director, Catherine Hardwicke, can we? Having made the first instalment in the Twilight series, she still seems to have a hangover about drama that revolves round vampires and werewolves, lusting for pretty young things. But a word of applause here for her protagonist this time round. Valerie is quite unlike Bella Swan and has a delicious appetite for the wicked and the wild. As a little girl, she prefers to break rules, disobey her mother, wander into the forest and hunt rabbits with her childhood friend, Peter. As an adult, she doesn't think twice before taking a tumble in the hay and is more than willing to run away with him to a life of disarray, instead of settling down with the rich and sober Henry.

Yes, the fun part of this film lies in the characterisation of Valerie as a vixen that ends up as a perfect match to the werewolf who waits patiently for her at the brink of civilisation. Of course the medieval mumbo-jumbo that enters the plot with the arrival of the poorly etched character of Father Solomon does derail the drama. For Red Riding Hood might have ended up as a modern metaphor on feminism (there's a whole lot of spunk 'neath the Hood), but the religiosity reduces the verve.

Watch it for the excellent production design, the breath-taking cinematography (Mandy Walker) and for Amanda Seyfried's rendition of go-go girls who gotta break some rules. And don't forget to savour Julie Christie's glamorous granny act. Wish there was more of her.

What purpose is there to adding endless expository material to a simple story? Absolutely none, other than indulging the filmmakers' preoccupation with nauseating melodrama and attempting to lure the Twi-hard crowd. There is more subtextual curiosity to some of the original iterations of the Red Riding Hood story than even come close to being probed in this film, where the iconography of a red cape and a salivating wolf are plunked into a Burton-Luhrmann mash-up that is neither meaningful nor entertaining.

Microsoft MSFT -1.24%  said its fiscal third-quarter net income rose to $5.2 billion, or 61 cents a share, from $4 billion, or 45 cents a share, in the same period a year earlier. Revenue for the period ended March 31 rose 13% to $16.4 billion, according to the company. Microsoft said its earnings result included a tax benefit of 5 cents a share.

Analysts polled by FactSet Research had expected Microsoft to report earnings of 55 cents a share for the quarter on $16.2 billion in revenue
The U.S. market started Thursday's trading on a flat note amidst discouraging reports on the country's unemployment benefits. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 0.06 percent, or 7.79 points, to trade at 12,698.75. The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc. composite index fell 0.23 percent, or 6.54 points, to trade at 2,863.50. The Standard & Poor's 500 slipped 0.02 percent, or 28 points, to trade at 1,355.86.

Before the opening bell, several companies reported their quarterly earnings. Few companies are scheduled to report their earnings after the closing bell today.

Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S: 5.09, 0.3), a leading telecommunications company, registered a net loss of $439 million, or 15 cents per share in its first quarter, down from a loss of $865 million, or 29 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue of the company rose 3 percent to $8.3 billion. The earnings beat analysts' expectation of 22 cents per share loss on revenue of $8.19 billion. Shares of the company gained 3.34 percent, or 16 cents to trade at $4.95.

MedcoHealth Solutions Inc. (NYSE: MHS: 60.13, 1.18), a health care company serving more than 65 million people, reported 4 percent increase in its Q1 profit to $333.1 million, or 80 cents per share, from $320.5 million, 67 cents a share, posted a year ago. Total revenue of the company rose 4 percent to $17.02 billion from $16.31 billion. Analysts had forecasted earnings of 88 cents per share on revenue of $17.06 billion for the company. Shares of the company gained 4.09 percent, or $2.41, to trade at $61.35.

Aetna Inc. (NYSE: AET: 41.44, 1.64), a leader in health and related benefits offering health insurance, pharmacy and medicare insurance, reported 4 percent increase in its first quarter to $586 million, or $1.50 per share, from $562.6 million, or $1.28 per share, a year ago. Total revenue of the company fell 3 percent to $8.39 billion. Analysts had estimated earnings of 96 cents per share on revenue of $8.32 billion. Shares of the company added 4.92 percent, or $1.96, to trade at $41.77.

Eastman Kodak Co. (NYSE: EK: 2.85, -0.31), a multinational U.S. corporation that produces imaging and photographic materials and equipments, registered a net loss of $246 million, or 91 cents per share, in its Q1, compared with net income of $119 million, or 40 cents a share, posted a year ago. Total revenue dropped 31 percent to $1.32 billion from $1.9 billion. Analysts had forecasted loss of 48 cents per share on revenue of $1.41 billion. Shares of the company tumbled 6.94 percent, or 22 cents, to trade at $2.95 in the initial hours.

GFI Group Inc. (NYSE: GFIG: 5.08, 0.105), a leading provider in wholesale brokerage, clearing services and trading support, is scheduled to report its first quarter earnings today after the closing bell. Analysts forecast earnings of 8 cents per share for the company. The company has a market capitalization of $613.44 million and a dividend yield of 4.02 percent. Shares of the company fell 0.20 percent, or 1 cent, to trade at $4.97.

Minerals Technologies Inc. (NYSE: MTX: 66.93, -0.35), a resource and technology-based organization, will report its first quarter earnings after the market closes today. Analysts forecast earnings of 83 cents per share for the company. The company has market capitalization of $1.23 billion and a dividend yield of 0.30 percent. Shares of the company added 0.04 percent, or 3 cents, to trade at $67.51.

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT: 26.19, -0.2), a leading software, services, and partner resources company, will report its third quarter earnings after the closing bell today. Analysts forecast earnings of 56 cents per share for the company. The company has a market capitalization of $222.58 billion and a dividend yield of 2.43 percent. Shares of the company gained 0.34 percent, or 9 cents, to trade at $26.47.

These coins feature an image of President Johnson that was designed and sculpted by Don Everhart.
Andrew Johnson took the oath of office as President of the United States following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. He had only been Vice President a short time after having joined Lincoln as his running mate for his second term. Johnson was brought on the ticket as a way of gaining support for Lincoln’s Presidency and his American Civil War policies because Johnson was previously a Senator from the southern state of Tennessee.
Johnson was then left with the responsibility of the initial reconstruction efforts of the South following the aftermath of the Civil War. His policies proved to be very unpopular with his Republican base and he did not win a re-nomination bid for a second term.

Grant was a relatively unknown and unsuccessful individual when he rose to great prominence during the American Civil War. His leadership style and ability to accomplish tasks led to his appointment as Lieutenant General and command of the US Army by President Abraham Lincoln. His continual defeat of Southern forces led to their surrender to him at Appomattox where he gave the defeated Southern Army gracious terms.
Hugely popular with the citizens who were reminded of his war record, Grant won the Presidency and assumed office in 1869. He served as President for two terms but also helmed the country during some tough economic times and several scandals linked to the White House.

Coins honoring the nineteenth President of the United States feature an obverse image of Hayes by Don Everhart.
Like Grant before him, Hayes rose to popularity owing to his war record from the American Civil War. Wounded on five separate occasions during that war, his bravery and leadership led to his eventual rank of Major General. He used this fame to become the nineteenth President in 1877.
In office, Hayes ordered the United States Military out of the Southern capital cities and an end to the Reconstruction of the South still in progress following the Civil War. Making strides in civil service reforms, Hayes left office after only one term keeping a promise he made during his election.

United States Mint Sculptor / Engraver Phebe Hemphill completed the image of Garfield that is found on the obverse of these coins.
Garfield also served as an officer during the American Civil War and while serving was elected to the United States House of Representatives from the state of Ohio. He remained a congressman until his election as President of the United States in 1881.
Unfortunately, Garfield was able to accomplish very little as President before being shot by Charles Guiteau on July 2, 1881. He survived a few more days, but passed away after having only been President for 200 days.

Presidential Dollar Coin Program Information

This US Mint series of coins was authorized by the Presidential Coin Act of 2005 (Public Law 109-145) and debuted with four strikes in 2007. The first of these appropriately honored George Washington as he was the first President of the United States. Subsequent strikes in the program have been and will be issued in the order upon which the individual served as the nation’s elected leader.
A total of four new coins are issued annually in the series which is scheduled to run until at least 2016. A stipulation in the authorizing Act dictates that no living persons be included under the program, and if a former President happens to pass away, that person shall only be honored after two years have passed since their death. As such, the last individual scheduled to be honored under the program is Gerald Ford who served as the nation’s 38th President from 1974-1977.
A portrait of the individual is shown on the obverse of each strike along with an inscription bearing their name, a number representative of the order in which they served, their years in office and IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse of all of the coins in the series contains United States Mint Sculptor / Engraver Don Everhart’s depiction of the Statue of Liberty along with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and $1.
Making the coins more unique is the fact that an edge inscription is used on each piece. This inscription currently includes the year of minting, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the mintmark. The original two years of the series also saw the motto of IN GOD WE TRUST placed on the edge.
Each coin is struck from a composition of copper with a manganese brass cladding that gives it a golden hue.
Past Presidential $1 Coins Released
The four coins shown above represent the seventeenth through the twentieth in the Presidential Coin series. Those released before include the 2007 George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison coins. In 2008, the US Mint released the James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren coins. In 2009, coins were issued honoring William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James K. Polk and Zachary Taylor. Finally, last year’s 2009 coins were struck to honor Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan and Abraham Lincoln.
