Commercial pilots strike illegal : Indian Airlines
As many as 36 flights in Delhi and 10 in Mumbai were cancelled after around 600 Air India pilots, who had been with the erstwhile Indian Airlines, struck work to demand pay parity and better working conditions, officials said Wednesday.
According to Air India, 12 percent of its total flights have been cancelled. The number is 36 in Delhi and 10 in Mumbai.

The Air Indian management has declared the strike by 660 Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA) illegal and sealed their offices. Numerous flights have been delayed and cancelled after the talks broke down between the union and Air India management late last night. But the pilots are on the back foot. The Delhi Hight Court has asked ICPA to withdraw the strike also calling it illegal.

Meanwhile Civil Aviation Minister Vyalar Ravi says that pilots cannot hold the management at ransom like this.

“No one can dictate terms to the government especially pilots,” says Ravi.

The services of ICPA leaders, including its president Capt A S Bhinder and general secretary Capt Rishabh Kapur, were terminated by the management, senior airline officials said. Two other agitating pilots were suspended.

Declaring as illegal the strike by about 800 pilots, the management derecognised the ICPA and sealed its offices in Delhi and Mumbai.

At least 20 AI flights were cancelled since midnight including several on the Delhi-Mumbai sector and those to Kathmandu, Bangkok, Raipur, Aurangabad, Srinagar, Hyderabad, Nagpur and Leh.
